Biotech-KISAN scheme

Biotech-Agriculture Innovation Science Application Network (Biotech-Kisan) is the initiative of Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology which empowers farmers, especially women farmers. Its purpose is to understand the problems of water, soil, seed and market faced by farmers and provide them with simple solutions.

This scheme is for the farmers, which has been developed by the farmers, empowers women, influences locally, connects globally, is Pan-India, is a Hub-and Spoke model and in the farmers Encourage entrepreneurship and innovation.

Biotech-KISAN scheme Objectives and Scope of coverage

  • Biotech-Agriculture Innovation Science Application Network (Biotech-Kisan) is being implemented in 15 agro-climatic areas of India in a phased manner with the following objectives:
  • Recognizing the problem of local farmers first, linking available science and technology to the farm and providing solutions to those problems.
  • Working in close coordination with scientists and farmers is the only way to improve working conditions of small and marginal farmers.
  • The objective of this program is to work with small and marginal farmers, especially through scientific intervention to develop best agricultural practices in the female farmer and Indian context for better agricultural productivity.

Biotech-KISAN scheme मुख्य विशेषताएं

For Farmers: Biotech-Farmer is a farmer centric scheme introduced by the Biotechnology Department, where scientists will work with farmers to understand the problems and work to find solutions.

Farmers: Developed in consultation with farmers. Soil, Water, Seeds and Markets are some of the key points that concern the small and marginal farmers. Biotech-farmer’s goal is to connect farmers, scientists and science institutions across the country with a network that identifies them and helps in resolving their problems in a cooperative manner.

Empower women: The female farmer is often neglected. Empowering the female farmer, it is important to help him with the concerns of better seed, storage of seeds and protection of crops from diseases and pests. The female farmer is also the main carer of livestock and is eager to organize traditional knowledge in handling livestock and with current best practices, especially in the context of emerging livestock diseases. This scheme includes women biotech-Kishen Fellowship for training and education in agricultural practices for women farmers. The objective of this scheme is to provide assistance to women farmers / entrepreneurs in their small enterprises, to make them a land innovator.
Globally adds: Biotech-Kisan will connect farmers to the best global practices; Training workshops will be organized in India and other countries. Farmers and scientists will be sharing around the world.

Locally Effect: The scheme has been targeted at least on the educated margins of the farmer; Scientist will spend time on farms and connect communication equipment with soil, water seeds and the market. Its purpose is to understand the individual problems of small farmers and to provide ready solutions.

Beyond India: Biotech KISAN will connect farmers to science in 15 agricultural-climatic areas of the country in a way that connects problems with continuous solutions available.

Hub and Spoke: In each of these 15 areas, a farmer will be the center connected to various science laboratories, agricultural science centers and state agricultural universities located in the organization sector. The hub will reach the farmers of the area and connect them with scientists and institutions.

The farmer in the form of an innovator will be the tinkering lab, communication cell in the hub and will carry out training, awareness, workshops throughout the year and will work as educational display units to encourage landless innovation in youth as well as women farmers.

Communication of best practices will be a communication set-up for radio stations and TV programs for local stations as well as to create daily connectivity through social media.
