The Government of India has announced that FASTags will be mandatory for all private or commercial vehicles from 1 December 2019. All vehicles without FASTags will have to pay double the normal toll charges at the highway toll plaza. People can get FASTag through various channels like Point-of-Sale (POS) at the toll plazas and bank branches of the National Highway.
People can also recharge their FASTag from Paytm, PhonePe and other e-commerce platforms. FASTag can be activated on the My FASTag mobile app or by contacting banks.
What is FASTag?
FASTag is an RFID passive tag that is used to make toll payments from a prepaid or savings / current account directly linked to customers. It is affixed to the windscreen of the vehicle and enables the customer to drive through the toll plaza, without any toll payment. The toll fare is deducted directly from the linked account of the customer. FASTag is also vehicle specific and once it is affixed to one vehicle, it cannot be transferred to another vehicle. FASTag can be purchased from any member bank of NETC. If a FASTag is linked to a prepaid account, it will have to recharge / top-up according to the customer’s usage. If sufficient balance is not maintained by the customer, FASTag is blacklisted at the toll plaza. In such a scenario, if the customer travels through the toll plaza without recharging, he will not be able to avail NETC services and will have to pay the toll fare through cash.
FASTag activation can be done in two ways, through banks and from My Fastag’s official mobile App, you can download My Fastag App from Play Store
