- To become a partner of the scheme, a person must be a native of India. This scheme is only for Indian farmers

- The eligibility of the scheme will be provided to the farmer according to the income of the farmer
- The character of PM Kusum Yojana will be the same farmer who has cultivable land.
Benefits of PM Kusum Yojana
For the benefit of the farmers – the successful operation of the Kusum scheme will not only help the farmers to meet their power requirements but will also help in earning some extra cash by selling additional energy.
Distribution of Solar Powered Pumps – The primary objective of the Kusum scheme is to provide solar pumps to interested farmers. According to the government, 17.5 lakh solar-powered pumps will be provided to agricultural laborers under this scheme.
Small Scale Power Generation – Apart from solar power plants, the government will work towards the installation of new solar pumps in the fields which have diesel pumps. These pumps will have a capacity of 720 MW.
Generation of electricity from tube wells – The government will also work towards the establishment of unique tube wells. Each of these pumps can generate 8250 MW of electricity
Subsidy structure of the scheme – According to the draft, every farmer will get a huge subsidy on new and improved solar-powered pumps. Agricultural laborers will have to bear only 10% of the total expenditure to obtain an installed solar pump. The central government will provide 60% of the cost, while the remaining 30% will be taken care of by the bank in the form of credit.
The scheme will open up a stable and continuous source of income to rural landowners for a period of 25 years using their dry / non-useful land. In addition, if cultivable farms are chosen to establish a solar power project, farmers can grow crops as solar panels are to be installed above the minimum height.
The proposed scheme will ensure that sufficient local solar/other renewable energy-based power is available to feed rural load centers and agricultural pump-set loads that require electricity during the day. Since these power plants would be located close to the power substations either by agricultural load or in a decentralized manner, this would result in transmission losses for STUs and discoms. Apart from this, the scheme will also help DISCOM to achieve the RPO target.
Solar pumps will save the cost incurred on diesel for running diesel pumps and provide farmers a reliable source of irrigation through solar pumps in addition to preventing harmful pollution from running diesel pumps. In light of the long waiting list for electric grid connections, the scheme would benefit 17.5 lakh farmers over a period of four years, without adding grid load.
