ujjwala sanitary napkin scheme was started by Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan. The purpose of this scheme is to establish 100 Ujjwal Sanitary Napkin Manufacturing Units in the Common Service Center (CSCs), which comprise 93 blocks from all 30 districts of Odisha. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) will spend Rs 2.94 crore to set up Ujjwal Sanitary Napkin Initiative units. Ujjwala Sanitary Napkin Initiative will provide employment opportunities to 10 women in every sanitary napkin manufacturing units. This is another initiative to empower women of the country. Also, the scheme will definitely inspire the women of rural areas to use the sanitary napkin pad.

The Central Government has launched the Ujwala Sanitary Napkin Initiative for women in Odisha. Under this scheme, all women will get access to sanitary products along with employment opportunities in every district of the state. This scheme of the union government will be a counter of happy scheme run by the government in which the government provides free sanitary napkins to female students of state government-aided schools.

According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) report, the overall utilization of sanitary napkins in Odisha is 33.5%, which is much less. So, the central government wants to convert the use of sanitary napkins into a mass movement.

All women will first get training in manufacturing and selling sanitary napkins. This initiative will give women the opportunity to earn from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per month. This scheme is going to make women self-reliant because the previous steps to deliver money to women through revolving funds are inadequate.

The Central Government has started the Ujjwala Cleanliness Navpike Initiative to promote cleanliness and provide women employment opportunities. Each manufacturing unit will be set up at a cost of approximately Rs 2.94 crore. Each pack will contain 8 sanitary pads, for which cost is 42 rupees per pack. In addition, each manufacturing unit will employ 5 or 6 bright beneficiaries. Therefore, this initiative will provide employment to about 600 women in all the districts.
